Laughter and the Kingdom: A Convivial Celebration with Ivan Illich

Laughter and the Kingdom: A Convivial Celebration with Ivan Illich is a colloquium that took place from September 2-4, 2022 at the University of Fribourg, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Ivan Illich’s death.

Momoyo Kaijima et Grégoire Farquet were listed as speakers under the title Spaces for Education in the Post-Urban Age and talked about Architectural Ethnography, the drawing workshop Learning Spaces in Pandemic Times, as well as the ARCH+ 249 Learning Spaces publication, which ultimately made a clear link with Ivan Illich’s thoughts and the context of  Deschooling Society.

Students’ drawings from Learning Spaces in Pandemic Times were exhibited around the Auditoire B of the beautiful Miséricorde, a building for which the plans were drawn up by Denis Honegger, the Swiss architect based in Paris, in collaboration with the Fribourg architect Fernand Dumas, a specialist in concrete constructions.

All the participants had the chance to stay at the marvelous oasis of the Abbaye of Hauterive.
