Situated on a hillside in Oberwil near Basel, the Zwischenraumhaus reinterprets communal living through the principle of “minimal private – maximal shared.” Conceived as a multigenerational home for twenty residents, clustered private rooms carve out generous communal spaces between them.
Shared kitchen and living areas foster daily encounters and strengthen social ties. Three subtly staggered timber buildings follow the slope, linked by accessible stairs and elevators.
A small square with a fountain extends the communal idea outward, becoming an inviting meeting place for the neighborhood.
