The Hearth Collective

  • Masans, Chur
  • At the heart of the "Hearth Collective" project lies the oven, situated on the ground floor and transitioning seamlessly into a chimney that extends from the base to the top of the building. The beam structure of the house is designed around the chimney, emphasizing its central role.
  • The communal spaces are located on the ground floor, where the ovens not only provide heat but also support specific functions in each of the four building blocks. The private rooms are designed to accommodate two to three people, providing necessary living spaces for retreat.
  • Inside, a massive clay brick construction was chosen to store the heat generated by the chimney, ensuring a pleasant indoor climate throughout the day. The windows connect the indoor functions with their corresponding outdoor spaces, establishing a strong connection to the context.
