Public Drawing – Sculpting Haven
- Waldlabor
- Walking along the “Mittelwaldstrasse”, surrounded by the quiet rustling of leaves, one suddenly catches sight
of a small, almost perfectly placed pond, its rounded edges and calm water giving it the appearance of a
Japanese garden, a space where nature seems to have sculpted perfect harmony, yet, this peaceful
scene isn’t entirely natural.
- Beech trees, with their shallow, widespread roots, have pushed the deeper-rooted silver firs outward over
time, leaving remnants of fir stems behind, while the beeches form a protective ring around the pond,
stabilizing the soil and reshaping the woodland.
- But the pond is more than just a quiet sanctuary, it is an active water source, with its water flowing through
a hidden pipe under the gravel path, guiding it towards the “Mittelwaldbach”, a stream that had vanished in
the 20th century but is now, with the help of human hands, transporting water away from the pond.
