Mehrsans

  • Masans, Chur
  • In Masans, a district of Chur, a multi-generation house is to be built in the midst of the single-family dwellings that dominate the area. Just south of the intersection of Kronengasse and Tschuggenstrasse, a small path leads to a group of houses that will be shared by the 20 new residents of Mehrsans.
  • Rotating walls allow the rooms to be used flexibly as single or double rooms for single people in flat-sharing communities or families. The tension in the narrow exterior spaces between the houses is counteracted not only by the deliberately shifted positioning of the windows, but also by two chicken coops.
  • The advantage of this ceiling-pillar construction is that the load-bearing structure is visible as a spatial quality, and that all the interior plasterboard walls are non-load-bearing. Thus, the house offers on a small area with a small room, more company and meeting in the larger rooms and with less material.
