Gion A. Caminada's "Casa Oscar Caviezel" combines several distinct design concepts, including a simple, rectangular floor plan, which I tried to integrate in my "Grünquartier" in Chur. The arrangement consists of six standalone buildings positioned to form a sort of corridor as the communal garden.
The houses are a classic timber construction clad in wooden shingles, distinguished by their clear structural approach. The multifunctional concrete core incorporates the staircase, kitchen, and bathroom, creating a separation between the front and back of the house and linking living areas to the garden.
While the rear sides are closed and introverted, the front sides open generously towards the garden, emphasizing community and connection to nature. The garden’s three sections foster interaction, play, and relaxation, reflecting a balance between privacy, openness, and shared living.
