Furniture – The Island of Sounds
- Hönggerberg, Zürich
- In an open meadow at the transition between the Hönggerberg campus and the adjacent Waldlabor lies a place that at first glance appears unassuming. Beneath the asphalt and the adjacent meadow extends an underground overflow basin with a capacity of 8,000 m³.
- At the heart of the intervention is a steel funnel, its shape reminiscent of a gramophone horn. It channels the sound of the flowing underground water to the surface. In this way, the invisible becomes acoustically perceptible.
- For them, the installation offers a space to pause briefly or to stay a while longer. A simple bench at the edge of the path provides initial access, behind which a larger deck opens up for groups, observing the forest’s edge and enjoying the soundscape.
