Furniture – Floating Encounters

  • Hönggerberg, Zürich
  • Floating Encounters is a spatial installation designed to encourage gathering, movement, and interaction across a river in a playful and engaging manner. Rather than treating the river as a boundary, the project transforms it into an active and connective public space that invites exploration, connection, and participation.
  • Between the parallel beams, movable platforms are installed. These platforms can slide along the beams with the help of a simple rope-pulley mechanism, allowing users to navigate across the river at their own pace. Individuals or groups can shift their position along the beams, pause midway, or even connect their platform with other fixed structure
  • More than just a bridge or passage, Floating Encounters reactivates the riverside by promoting fluid, collective use of the water and its surroundings. It challenges traditional notions of static infrastructure by introducing movement, choice, and collaboration into how people use and experience the space.
