Case Study – Villa Ehinger

- Rising above former factory fields, the Villa Ehinger reflects a life of transformation. Commissioned by cotton mill director Ludwig Sarasin and designed by Melchior Berri after his travels through Italy, it presents Neorenaissance with Palladian motifs and a Doric portico.
- Inherited by the Ehinger family, the villa became municipal property and now serves as a music school.
- Once filled with painted interiors, it is now open to the public, its evolving form mirroring Basel’s growth architecture quiet outskirts to a city.
