Case Study – Villa an der Hardstrasse 45

  • Basel
  • At the corner of Hardstrasse, the villa rises as a statement of duality. Its symmetrical façade and cultivated garden stage bourgeois refinement, projecting wealth and order into the street.
  • Behind this elegance unfolds another reality: servants moving through cellars and back staircases, discreet yet essential. Unlike in many Basel villas, they were granted a private room on the ground floor, unusually close to the representative spaces.
  • The house therefore reveals a hierarchy softened by respect, where representation and service coexisted in architectural form.
