Case Study – Villa an der Hardstrasse 45 – 1886

- Basel
- A villa as custodian of two centuries. Built in 1886 for Adèle Burckhardt-BischoB, it embodied bourgeois life with symmetrically arranged rooms, guest quarters, servant spaces, and a veranda tying the salon to the garden.
- Its ordered structure, of brick and sandstone, oBered both representation and domestic intimacy. Today, the same clear layout accommodates oBices, while children play outside and trams rush past where once carriages stood.
- Rescued from demolition in 1999, the house bridges Basel’s passage from private domesticity to collective work culture.
