Case Study – Koechlin House – 1993
- Riehen
- The Koechlin House in Riehen, near Basel, unfolds like a crystal. From the outside, its inner structure remains concealed—the reflections of glass walls hide the spaces within.
- Formed around an empty core, two U-shaped volumes embrace a luminous patio. Light enters through irregular windows, dissolving boundaries between openness and privacy.
- Transparent walls create spatial continuity, making the interior appear as one flowing space while concrete shells shield it like a crystal. Light itself becomes the house’s essential material.
