Case Study – Haus Ackermann – 1963

- Through its extensive use of exposed concrete, a material characteristic of postwar architecture, Haus Ackermann attains a striking presence, even though embedded in the sloping landscape outside Basel.
- At the same time, architect Gilbert Ackermann roots the building in its context by designing a large garden and a continuous planter that weaves along the raw walls before extending into the interior, softening the structure and creating a subtle dialogue between architecture and landscape.
