Case Study – House Mendel – Lux Guyer, 1931

  • Küsnacht, Zürich
  • The house was originally built for Toni Mendel, a widow who made her money with selling clothes.
  • Bushes and trees protect house Mendel against unwanted eyes but still allow a perfect view of the lake. There is a pathway to the neighbour’s house, where Lux Guyer lived, but with a clear optical separation.
  • House Mendel is mainly built out of concrete, with bricks below the windows. In the basement there is a strange room for coal in order to heat the house.
