Growing Together

  • Germaniastrasse, 8006 Zürich
  • The goal was to bring two generations back together and under one roof, taking advantage of communal spaces as natural environments to form even closer connections and relationships. To be living in this building, means teaching and learning, giving back and looking forward. I focused on combining seniors and kindergarteners, between 2 and 5.
  • The food hall is the starting point of the interaction between young and old. Designated game rooms and libraries are designed in a way, that seniors and kindergarteners can have a visual connection to each other.
  • The building is separated into two main parts, the kindergarten on the lower two floors and the senior citizen home on the remaining three. Another volume acts as a multi-purpose communal space for everyone. The large structure is designed to seem light. A steel frame construction with concrete slabs also allows for quick and easy construction.
