The Scent of Wood

- "There will not be a community without a shared interest or common ground." As the site is located near the forest, a new settlement will be built for a community of carpenters and craftsmen. Two volumes parallel to the slope and with vastly different but specific functions create an open space in between them.
- "The dwellings should be a retreat for the inhabitants but never isolated from the rest of the community." While apartments of different sizes are located in one building, a central workshop provides a space where members of different ages can come together and exchange knowledge.
- "Without permeability, the community will become an isolated space within its surroundings." Physical and visual connections between the inside and outside turn the settlement into an open community, physically and figuratively. Threshold spaces that are neither completely inside nor outside will add to this desire.
