Case Study – Torre Fiorenzana – 1997

  • Grono, Graubünden
  • Torre Fiorenzana in Grono, built 900 years ago by the da Sacco family, once symbolized power as part of a beacon network controlling the Mesocco valley. Over time, it shifted from a fortress to a farmer's home, adapting with practical changes like a cellar.
  • In the 1990s, the tower found a new purpose as an art exhibition space for the valley’s museum, becoming both a cultural hub and a historical symbol. While many celebrate its revitalization and the art scene it fosters, some locals question its relevance to everyday challenges in the village.
  • orre Fiorenzana, Grono’s oldest building, embodies the passage of time, standing as both a relic of the past and a focal point for contemporary community discussion.
