Case Study – Gugalun House – 1994
- Versam, Graubünden
- The farmhouse in the Safien Valley, a family heirloom, was renovated by Zumthor to blend its new function as a summer retreat with the building’s historical charm. The extension added essentials like a modern kitchen, two rooms, and a bathroom, while respecting the original structure's quirks.
- Zumthor’s design incorporates aging wood and a facade system variation, ensuring a seamless fusion of old and new. The addition complements the historic building, preserving its essence and making it suitable for future generations.
- The project reflects the motto "Tempora mutantur," showing how times change yet tradition remains.
