Case Study – Türelihuus – 1485
- Valandas, Graubünden
- The Türelihuus, located in the center of Valendas, is a striking white stone building with a tower that stands out against the surrounding traditional wooden homes. Its monumental height and unique design give it an air of foreign influence, marking a stark contrast to the village's vernacular architecture.
- The tower serves both symbolic and functional purposes, representing authority while also providing access to different areas of the house. Inside, the layout reflects the social divisions of the time, where different classes would meet and separate.
- As a French-Baroque building, the Türelihuus is an important historical artifact. It embodies the architectural and social shifts of the 18th century, reflecting the power dynamics and the patricians’ desire for representation during that transformative period.
