Case Study – Casa Da Vrin – 1758
- Vrin, Graubünden
- The "Casa da Vrin" in the small village of Vrin is a testament to the enduring power of hard craftsmanship and local natural resources. Built using traditional "Strickbau" methods, the house features walls and exterior construction made of durable larch wood, prized for its slow growth and dense annual rings.
- Areas in contact with the ground or exposed to fire are constructed with solid stone, while the stone roof provides cooling in summer and excellent heat retention in winter, typical of Alpine architecture.
- The careful selection and use of these materials have contributed to the house's impressive durability, allowing it to remain a prominent feature in the village after nearly 300 years.
