Case Study – Complesso di tre Case – 1740

  • Cugnasco, Ticino
  • The "Complesso di tre case," formerly located at Via Chiosso 6 in Cugnasco, was built and expanded until 1860 by the Giulieri farming family. It evolved from a small two-story house into a homestead with three separate households.
  • Constructed from stone and wood, primarily gneiss and chestnut, the houses are designed to endure the harsh alpine climate of the Sopraceneri region. The steep topography and limited space resulted in a vertical orientation and a compact cubical form typical of the "Rustico" style.
  • The layout reflects a strict division between public and private spaces. The cellar and kitchen are accessible from the public ground floor, while the bedrooms and attic are reached by an external staircase, ensuring separation between the communal and private areas of the home.
