Case Study – Complesso di tre Case – 1740

  • Cugnasco, Ticino
  • The Complesso di tre case, located in Cugnasco, Ticino, is a traditional stone "rustico" on the sunny, warm southern side of the Alps. Built in three phases, it consists of three connected houses, each with simple one-room floors and a semi-detached section with a vaulted cellar.
  • Constructed using dry masonry, the walls are built by stacking locally quarried stones, shaped by chisel and hammer, without using mortar.
  • Family life centered on the kitchen on the first floor, where fireplaces heated the rooms and chimney holes helped warm the upstairs bedrooms. The cool, dry cellar was ideal for storing vegetables, wine, and milk.
