Island

  • Viganello, Lugano
  • Spatial distances among individuals can create a sense of isolation, resembling solitary islands. Therefore, the design aims to foster diverse communal areas suitable for residents of all age groups. While each residential unit remains self-contained, it harmoniously interacts with neighbouring units and contributes to the overall community ethos.
  • The residential complex consists of four units of varying sizes, along with a shared common space. This central common area serves as a focal point and the main traffic flow hub, accessible to all residents and accommodating multiple functions.
  • Inspired by the Casa Viggiano case study, the design features double-height spaces and large glass windows within the common areas, promoting openness and connectivity.
