Le Tartarughe

  • Viganello, Lugano
  • Inspired by the idea of continuity between interior and exterior as seen in Casa Ebelin Bucerius, Tartarughe is a complex of six single-family houses on the steep terrain of Lugano, aiming to integrate into the original garden. To achieve this, the houses are sunken into the ground, and a bench along the windows aligns with the terrain's level.
  • The bench serves as a mediator between interior and exterior spaces, with each side of the house offering a distinct atmosphere. On the north side, the houses provide a more intimate experience, nestled behind tall grass.
  • On the south side, more natural light filters through, and a large winter garden offers additional space in front of the houses for the inhabitants.
